VG Peter Alfaro converges land, sea for the community

Vice Gov. Peter Alfaro didn’t turn a deaf ear when, on March 22, Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar urged local government units to prioritize local farmers produce as they prepare food relief assistance for distribution to affected families in the face of COVID-19 rampage.

Vice Gov. Peter Alfaro however has already set the wheel turning to converge land and sea produce for the community, even before Department of Agriculture started banging the bell,

Sharing an article published March 22 Department of Agriculture making such call, Vice Gov. Peter Alfaro followed it up by authoring a resolution encouraging all eleven (11) municipalities in Occidental Mindoro to buy the products of their local farmers and fishermen as they race against time in preparing food packs for their constituents.

Not yet convinced with the power of his sponsored resolution, VG Alfaro sent his query with DA Regional Executive Director Antonio Gerundio “to provide vegetable seeds for distribution in support of our Gulayan Sa Bakuran program.

He also request the Provincial Agriculturist “to follow it up and provide additional fund from our local source if necessary.”

Walking further with the his leads, VG Alfaro then coordinated with Department of Agriculture Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) to make sure that the latter will provide the needed assistance to Occidental Mindoro farmers and fishermen in bringing and transporting their products to National Capital Region markets, March 26.

Today, March 27, VG Alfaro posted photos of farm produce like the monggo from the Municipality of Rizal and dried pagulpol fish from the Municipality of Sablayan showcasing how rich the Province is in terms of agricultural products and the same time informing the public that such are intended for distribution to cushion the impact of enhanced of community quarantine.

He further added that the Municipality of Lubang has received their P50,000.00 financial assistance from the Provincial Government, as approved by Sangguniang Bayan, along with Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of the Municipality of Looc receiving P30,000.00 to be utilized in purchasing their own local farmers and fishermen produce to be included in their food relief assistance to the community.

VG Alfaro’s lead echoed across the Municipality of Abra de Ilog which also featured dried fish and mongo on the food relief packs they have prepared for their constituents.

The Municipality of Rizal also followed suit with Mayor Sonny Pablo posting a photo of also dried fish and mongo for the same purpose.

When God created earth, He made sure everyone will never go hungry. Thus, he filled the land and sea with blessings where man can feed himself with. As population grew, farmers and fishermen came to into being to satisfy the growing needs of the people.

But a fisherman cannot feed on fish alone. The same with farmers with his farm produce. There must be a way for one to benefit from the other. In times like these, with COVID-19 at everyone’s heel, VG Alfaro stood in the middle to bring land and sea blessings for the benefit of Occidental Mindoro community.
