Ramirez ends 2020 with youth, family-oriented projects

While the year 2020 proved to be an awful one, Occidental Mindoro 1st District Board Member Philip Villaluna Ramirez capped it with the best possible meaningful way by coming up with youth and family-oriented projects.

BM Ramirez, for one, partnered with Occidental Mindoro’s premier youth-oriented group Youth of the Nation (YN) who, for the last couple of years, has been putting up a dance contest for God’s glory dubbed as SAYAWEH or ‘Sayaw Para Kay Yahweh‘.

Secondly, BM Ramirez emphasized the importance of family during Christmas holidays with ‘Kwentong Pasko’ focusing on three categories:

  • Best Family Ever (#BestFamEver)
  • Luto Ni Nanay (#LutoNiNanay)
  • Baka Naman (#BakaNaman)

SAYAWEH

SAYAWEH was founded by PASTOR JUNE CAPAROS in 1998. Popularly known as “Kuya Cado”, he saw the youths’ enthusiasm and interest to the art of dancing.

He then channeled this to giving praises and glory to God, thereby instituting a great sense of brotherhood and camaraderie among young generation that cut across different municipalities.

FROM THE INSIDE:

Kuya Cado however left to fulfill his evangelical mission in Bacolod where he is currently residing. His core members however went on to let the good vibes flow and YN dance contest lives on.

By the first week of December, BM Ramirez sent his emissary to sit down with representatives of Youth of the Nation based in the Municipality of Mamburao headed by RJ Alvarez to discuss options on how they can stage the dance contest.

With threats of Covid-19 still high, YN is faced with the challenges of assembling dance groups from different municipalities to compete with each other while following health protocols. And since it’s a competition, warm bodies are expected to rub elbows any selected venue.

Everyone knows it won’t be easy. But with their commitment to annually showcase the youth’s dance moves, they are not to let the pandemic pin down their tradition for nothing this year.

Beforehand, BM Ramirez told his representative that he is more than willing to talk with some people who will also have the interest to support the event. He also suggested that venues be chosen for SAMARICA and MAPSA area that can accommodate participants from 1st and 2nd District of Occidental Mindoro. Such was then brought out and agreed upon during meetings with YN core members.

San Jose Pilot Elementary School (SJPES) came out as the best venue for SAMARICA participants, December 17 through the coordination of San Jose Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Christian Hennesy Cruz, while Occidental Mindoro National High School (OMNHS) welcomed those from MAPSA floor movers, December 16.

Sobrang thankful tayo kay SK Fed Pres. Christian Cruz at Sir Fred Magbanua, Principal ng OMNHS. Malagang instrumento din sila para mabigyang daan yung event. Maraming salamat talaga sa kanila.

Sablayan South Extension Municipal Hall on the other hand hosted the town’s lone participated through Sangguniang Bayan member JB Dawates.

Salamat din kay Kon. JB and Mayor Andy Dangeros dahil pinayagan niya tayo na magamit yung 3rd floor ng kanilang munisipyo.

Meanwhile, to avoid crowding the dance contest venue, participants were given time as to when they will have to come to perform. Everyone was required to wear a face mask. They were only allowed to remove it during the performance.

Mingling with other groups was also prohibited. They are to stay in their designated area.

A total of ten (10) dance groups joined the contest. They are as follows:

KWENTONG PASKO

Christmas season is family bonding time. And BM Ramirez knows this perfectly. With himself missing his family, he felt the best way to get closer to them is to see how everyone value their family members through photo contest.

RAMIREZ BESTFAMEVER
RAMIREZ LUTO NI NANAY
RAMIREZ BAKA NAMAN

Malayo din ako sa pamilya ko. Most of the time nasa Manila sila and ako lang ang naiiwan dito. Pero yung makita ang mga kababayan natin kung paano nila pinapahalagahan ang kanilang kapamilya at magkakasama ngayong Pasko, happy na rin ako’, explains BM Ramirez on his Kwentong Pasko Photo Contest.

The contest’s concept is simple. Interested participants only need to comment a photo of their family picture for #BestFamEver category, and their favorite cuisine prepared by their Mom during Christmas holiday for #LutoNiNanay category.

The contest also includes #BakaNaman where participants are to send out their Christmas wish with the hope of BM Ramirez granting it.

Each photo entry is coupled with a description. BM Ramirez personally read all of them before announcing the winners last December 30 through Facebook Live with DJ Yuzo Raketero and DJ Dazel of The Bay 99.3 FM as hosts.

Raffle gifts were also given out during the announcement of winners.
