Despite rain, Abra de Ilog LGU delivers 842 food boxes

Despite the outpouring of rain, frontliners of LGU Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro went out to distribute food boxes to residents under strict quarantine due to Covid-19, September 8-9.

With help from MSWDO – Abra de Ilog, MDRRMO, Pantawid Pamilya Progra – Abra de Ilog, Sustainable Livelihood Program staff, and officials of concerned barangays, a total of 842 food boxes from Department Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reached affected families, mostly in Brgy. Poblacion.


By The Number

On its September 9 update, PIO Abra de Ilog listed down the number of food boxes received by different zones in Poblacion and other areas:

  • Zone 1 upper – 83
  • Zone 1 lower – 48
  • Zone 2 upper – 44
  • Zone 2 lower – 51
  • Zone 3 – 67
  • Zone 4 upper – 42
  • Zone 4 lower – 47
  • Zone 5 – 40
  • Zone 6 – 71
  • Zone 7 – 65
  • Zone 8 – 162
  • Lawaan – 44
  • Atipan – 78

Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ)

Brgy. Poblacion is already on its second 10-day Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status.

As requested by Mayor Eric Constantino and approved by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG Regional Director and MIMAROPA Regional Inter Agency Task Force Chairperson Wilhelm M. Suyco, it was first declared as Critical Zone on August 21 – 31, 2021 due to a sudden surge of Covid-19 cases.

By August 22, a total of 71 active cases were recorded. Since then, Abra de Ilog assiduously pooled resources to assist and help the affected residents.

Some 327 families received food packs as early as August 23.

A breakdown of active cases per barangay was published on August 23 by PIO Abra de Ilog. Brgy. Poblacion is on top of the list with 39 cases. The number went as high as 59 cases on August 30, consistently being followed by Brgy. Balao with 16 cases the most on August 25.

With number of cases hardly slowing down, a second 10-day Enhanced Community Quarantine order was issued, covering the period of September 1-11, 2021.

Mayor Constantino issued Executive Order No. 2021-010 reiterating the second implementation of ECQ.

Today is supposedly the last day. LGU Abra de Ilog has not yet issued another update whether or not Brgy. Poblacion will still be placed under ECQ.

As of September 10, the number of active cases has gone down to 40.

Mobile Market

To augment the food assistance being distributed to residents, the LGU launched Mobile Market on August 23.

Deployed in different zones, the Mobile Market carries with it fruits, vegetables, and other agricultural products.

Assistance from OCD

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – MIMAROPA Reginal Director BGen Ruben Carandang, recognizing Abra de Ilog’s needs and requirements to maintain in Isolation Facility, immediately sent non-food items on August 25 upon the request of Mayor Constantino through Municipal DRRMO.

The assistance include hygiene kits, refrigerator, washing machine, electric fans, beds, water dispense, water heater, gas burner with gas tank, and others as per Abra de Ilog Emergency Response Operation’s (AERO) update.
