COVID19 | Manong Bubo voices out DepEd’s support to frontliners

Manong Bubo. The name might not mean that much in the whole Province of Occidental Mindoro. We probably haven’t heard about him. But to everyone’s information, he is a poet, a composer. But do you know what’s the best about him? HE IS A TEACHER. And he topped Oksi DepEd’s 3Ps Project.

Manong is an Ilocano word referring to “Kuya” . Bubo on the other hand is a Bicolano word for “bata”. So we have here “Kuya Bata”.

FROM THE INSIDE:

Then who is Manong Bubo?

His father is an Ilocano, while his mother is a native of Bicol region. To put a clearer picture of him, he is no other than Mr. Mark Jaymond T. Castil.

So what’s with the voice?

Going fast forward, Manong Bubo was adjudged as winner of DepEd Occidental Mindoro’s Project 3Ps. The project encourages all students and teachers of public elementary and secondary schools to produce or create materials such as video presentations, poems, or songs expressing gratitude to frontliners.

And Manong Bubo came out strong with his original song composition.

Here’s the song he created in collaboration with Ian Errol Tupas Castil (Concepcion National High School, Calintaan District), and Bhenjames Daragay (Ligaya National High School, Sablayan South District).

Early this morning, we came across his composition. I watched and listened hard to the lyrics and its message. He was able to rip apart barriers and brought down the odds to lead the way in expressing support to frontliners on behalf of Deped Occidental Mindoro. The bare acoustic music that accompanied his deep and rustic voice solidified everyone’s clamor to “Heal As One”.

These and more made us decide to know more about him and read more what he has in mind. And through Facebook messenger, we threw in our bags of questions which he willingly answered.

MANONG BUBO PUNTO MINDORO

Deped In Action

Since Day 1 of enhanced community quarantine, the Department of Education – Occidental Mindoro hasn’t stopped from innovating to have its teaching force remain on top of everything. The classes may have been suspended, but our teachers came out and stood tall in doing their part in helping and in supporting the frontliners amid coronavirus pandemic.

Thanks to the imaginative mind of Oksi DepEd School Division Superintendent Dr. Roger Capa, our teachers had their hands busy weaving out activities to become a productive member of the society as the Province remains under siege of Covid-19 health threats.

Almost three weeks after placing the Province under enhanced community quarantine, DepEd Occidental Mindoro, through SDS Dr. Capa, launched Project 3Ps (Panalangin, Pagsuporta, at Pasasalamat). This followed after the successful implementation of “Facemask Giveaway Project: Gurong Nasa Bahay, Inyong Kaagapay” and “Project ATKM Aralan Sa Tahanan, Katuwang Ang Magulang”.

Deped Occidental Mindoro School Division Superintendent Dr. Roger Capa

According to Dr. Capa, Project 3Ps “is an SDO OksiMin initiated a program in response to the call of President Duterte to be united in prayer in the fight against Covid 19 and to express a deep sense of support and gratitude to our frontliners who risk lives and limbs to ensure the safety of the family and the nation. Project 3Ps aims to promote the DepEd Core Values, family solidarity, and civic responsibility among DepEd employees, learners, and stakeholders of Occidental Mindoro especially during this difficult time.”

Dr. Capa added that the Project has three components, namely Panalangin (encouraging all families to pray together every eight o’clock in the evening until the quarantine has been suspended), Pagsuporta (encouraging the teaching force to work as one in supporting and acknowledging the efforts of frontliners by giving foods, mineral water, grocery packs and others), and Pasasalamat (thanking everyone who joined the contest through monetary rewards ranging from P2,000.00 to P5,000.00, and consolation prizes)

The X-Factor

Receiving numbers of entries, Dr. Capa and other members of the panel of judges had a hard time deciding to whom they will give the bacon. At the end of the day, they saw the “X-Factor” at Manong Bubo’s entry.

The X factor is yung originality and he was able to express creatively his support and gratitude to all our frontliners who risk lives and limbs to ensure our safety.

SDS DR. ROGER CAPA

Dr. Capa also thanked Occidental Mindoro’s teaching force for supporting DepEd’s projects.

Thank you for your full support to all the programs and projects that we have initiated during the Enhanced Community Quarantine. Each time I see the posts of our teachers distributing relief goods and doing productive things in support of our programs , I am inspired to do my best.

SDS DR. ROGER CAPA
