12 sirens given to Magsaysay barangays

Twelve (12) sirens and its controllers were given to twelve barangays in the Municipality of Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, March 3.

As projected by Mayor Jun Jun Tria, the sirens are to serve as early warning device to barangay residents ahead of any foreseen calamity.

Mayor Tria believes that the sirens will also give residents enough time to prepare before typhoon or flood hit their area.

In October 2020, Magsaysay was engulfed by flash floods brought by typhoon Quinta. It displaced numbers of residents in matter of hours.

Typhoon Quinta flooded big portion of Municipality of Magsaysay in October 2020.

The LGU also had difficulty evacuating people from heavily flooded barangays due to the absence of an early warning device. But with sirens already distributed, it is expected for everyone to be more ready in times of calamity.

Mayor Jun Jun Tria led the distribution of sirens and their controller to twelve barangays.

Accordingly, the project is meant to strengthen the Municipality’s capability in terms of disaster preparedness.

Other members of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), together with personnel of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) also came to witness the distribution of sirens.
